east meets west

I wrote this a few months before I got married and a few days before our 2nd year anniversary as sweethearts. I want to repost this because as I was scouring through old photographs, I saw this cute picture of Lizzie during last years UAAP cheerdancing competition at the Araneta Coliseum. The battle between Espana and Diliman has not ended though. I guess it will stay that way. Somehow, it keeps the fire burning in our marriage...

We were supposed to rest yesterday but we found ourselves going to the Araneta to watch the UP-UST games. Surprisigly, UP won..

Theirs is a story of fate. Of destiny. Of two souls meeting and becoming one. It was as if the heavens bowed before them one rainy evening in August, two years ago. Theirs is a story of a great love surpassing the test of time.

They both come from small families. Each with two kids. He, the eldest. She, the youngest. They were born in the same year. Four years earlier, the girl's mom had her first son. Four years later, the boy's mom had her daughter. He was educated in an all-boys school while she studied in all-girls convent. The boy's family is from the North. The girl, from the South. He had the time of his life when he was younger. She preferred to stay home.

In college, they went to different schools. He went to EspaƱa while she pursued her education in Diliman. Without both of them knowing it, something kept them together. UAAP. Both were die-hard fans of their respective schools. Both would skip classes to watch the games. Both were so proud of their pep squads.

He is a growling tiger. She is a fighting maroon. He shouts "We are the tigers, the mighty mighty tigers..". She yells "UP go UP fight!!!". He wears yellow. She wears maroon. Both do not share the same thoughts on this particular topic. UAAP. But they agree on everything else.
Despite all these and more, both love each other with the same intensity. A woman sitted in front of them asked "So, you're from UST and your girl's from UP, in situations like this, don't you guys fight?" The boy looked at the girl, smiled at her and answered the old woman back "No". *sigh*

They share the same passion for food. He loves red saucy meals. She hates it. She wants her food dry. He loves sardines. She doesn't eat it. She would would rather have dried fish. But they both love to eat and that's what matters. They share the same passion for books, for writing, for music, for basketball. They both love everything simple. Nothing of the fancy stuff. Nothing of the frills. They want it plain. That's how they describe elegance.

Not mentioning UAAP and the Cheerdancing Competition, everything is beautiful in their lives. Boy loves girl and treats her like a Princess. She is his Beatrice. His One Great Love. Girl adores boy and loves him very much. The kind of love that only immortals feel. He is her Dante. Her sublime.
