values

While in the car on my way to work today, I was telling stories to Arthuz and I shared with him the news that the 15-year old daughter of somebody we know is pregnant. Yes, she is pregnant at 15! He was astounded. I was too, when I first heard the news. I mean, how can a teenage girl get into something as serious as being pregnant?

So, we were talking about it the whole time he was driving from our place to Ortigas (where I am working right now because of the series of yet another training that I need to complete). We are very concerned about the girl who at age 15, wouldn't really know what she is into right now. How will she be able to be a good mother when she is barely out of high school?

I guess it all boils down to how you as parents raise your kids. We are parents to a 3 year old girl and 10, 12, 14 years from now, she will have her own set of friends, and eventually she will have her own life. The values that you impart as a child will form a great impact in her development as a person. If during her formative years, you are nowhere to be found... If during the times that she was suffering from identity crisis, you were busy with your own life... If during her low and dark moments, you can't make time for her -- this will all have great effect on what she will become. We are not perfect parents but we try to be the best that we can be. We want her to grow up with good friends surrounding her, and good people guiding her. We pray hard that she will be strong enough to face trials and wise enough to make good decisions. We are partly scared of what the future has for her, but the prayers and our strong faith lets us forget about cynicism and makes us excited to show her the world.
