my dear lizzie

3 years ago, you were born. Although equipped with knowledge from the books and magazines, Mommy was clueless on what I needed to do. Your lolas only told me to deliver you safely. I did. With flying colors. You were a very big baby. 8.4 pounds. Long. Healthy. And your voice, oh my! You got it from me. The doctors said that when you first cried, they were all shocked to hear your big, clear voice. It was a long, tiring yet memorable day. September 19, 2005.

Today, I am watching you sleeping peacefully at your own bed. Independence. That's what you have been practicing since a few months ago. You eat alone, dress up alone. You control your day. You know when it's time to read books, and play with your crayola. You remind your yaya if it's bath time or if she fails to give you "kalamansi" in the morning. You carry your own ipod and can sing a whole "Jonas Brothers" song. You are super ready for school. I just feel otherwise. Maybe, mommy doesn't want you to grow up too fast.

As you tread on life, please always remember that there are people who love and care for you. And who want only the best for you. Daddy and Mommy are working really hard to give you the life that you trully deserve. The first time I held you in my arms, I made a promise to myself and to you that I will strive to give you a better life. A good life. A beautiful life. I am working on it. Dad's helping me out. And so does your grannies. They all want the best for you, honey.

Just enjoy your childhoold. Play. Have fun. Life is great. Life is beautiful. Mommy and Daddy will always be here for you. We want you to be the best in whatever it is that you want to do. Someday, you will be an achie to Baby Sky. I want you to guide him and show him how beautiful life is, the same way we showed it to you.

Smile, baby. And the world will smile back at you. I pray that you get my sense of independence and my strength, and you get your dad's kindness and selflessness. There will be ups and downs. Don't be scared. We are here.

Happy 3rd Birthday to you, our dear princess!!!

Semper Fi,

Mommy
