..and then there's gabbie...

gabbie

Just this evening, I called my mother in law to ask if we are pushing through with our Divisoria trip tomorrow. But instead of planning out our trip, she shared with me the good news that Shine and Carlos will be having a baby girl!!!

Hubby and I are extremely excited about the good news that we started segregating all the stuff that Lizzie weren't able to wear/use when she was little. We can't wait to see our newest little one.

Aubrey Gabrielle...

Papa Arthuz, Mama F and Achie Lizzie can't wait to see you!!

proud to be an iska!

Studio 23 managed to show the 2007 UAAP Cheerdancing competition again yesterday afternoon. Imagine for more than an hour, I was glued to the tube at my in laws' hardware in Antipolo. It was 'pasahod' yesterday but everything has to stop for a while because the payroll master (that's me!) can't be disturbed for the duration of UP Pep's majestic performance. For all it's fame and glory, UP shone once more. And it never fails really. The tingling up my spine, the tears falling down my cheeks, the pride that I am a product of the Philippines' Premier University. This led me to another conclusion -- be it academics, sports or what have you... UP rocks!

always be my baby - the cook version

I still can't get enough of DC. When I still dream about a certain thing, that means that I still want to talk about whatever it is - be it a person or a thing. One month, One year, One decade -- who knows? All I'm sure of right now is he rocks my world!

spring cleaning now!

My house needs a major general cleaning. Now is a good time since the little girl is in the beach with her lolo and lola. First things first. I need to ask the maid to run to the grocery to get me the below items:

1. Lysol disinfectant
2. powdered soap
3. soft broom
4. pail
5. Austin Air air purifiers
6. glass cleaner
7. door mats

The little girl will be surprised tomorrow as she comes home to a spic and span house! Can’t wait!

My husband has always been a big fan of Dwight Howard. He has followed his basketball career and has watched almost all his games. Next to MJ, Dwight is his idol. So, together, we are dreaming of having one of those Orlando vacations that we read in the papers or we see in the web. It will really be great hitting the streets of Orlando, having fun, and who knows? Meeting Dwight Howard in one of his games? Heee! Wishful thinking!

snippets on lizzie

Aside from the unfortunate incident earlier this week when Lizzie shaved her really pretty brows, she is becoming really inquisitive, curious, adventurous - not to mention a handful, lately. She would ask all kinds of questions to all sorts of things that she sees around her. She makes up stories and finds ways to get the things she wants (in an adorable, fun way). Her favorite word now is why?

wearing my jacket!
--------------------------------
A few weeks ago while I was resting in the sala. I heard her shout in the bathroom while she was making a pee and her yaya was assisting her.

Mama, Mama!! Ayuda Me Ayuda Me!! Help me Mama, Help me!

She has been watching too much Dora and Diego lately that she has adapted their language already. I love it when she does that. I think it's really cute.

her dada and i gave her a dora doll last week

--------------------------------

biting her upper lip

Everytime her dada asks her why Mama has to bathe so early in the morning, dress up and drive to work -- she knows her answers by heart (without anybody teaching her)

Dada: Where will mama go?
Lizzie: To the office...
Dada: What does she do in the office?
Lizzie: Computer (then shows her dad how I do it)
Dada: What is she doing in the computer?
Lizzie: Counting money for Lizzie
--------------------------------
And because this past month, I go to work at 12 noon, I won't be home until 10pm. Each day just before that time, Lizzie would blurt out: Dada, is it 10 o clock na? The dad would then ask: Why baby? Lizzie would then answer: Because mama should be home na. I'm sleepy na.

I fear losing the child in her. Please don't let her grow up too fast....

FARAH'S 10

Tagged by Maver.

1. Each blogger starts with ten random facts/habits about themselves;
2. Bloggers that are tagged need post these rules amd and their ten things on their own blog;
3. At the end of your blog, you need to choose 10 people to keep the tag going;
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged!

My Random 10:
1.) I know how to drive but I RARELY drive. I am one lazy pig.
2.) I am a righty but I use my left hand to do things
3.) I can't take a shower without hot water. Even during the hot summer months.
4.) I can't finish a whole movie without falling asleep. And my husband hates me for that!
5.) I love cooking but cooking doesn't love me. LOL.
6.) I love to sleep. I can sleep for 24 hours straight, maybe even more. I will never give it up for anything in the world (material that is).
7.) I am fiercely independent. I came to Manila at age 16 and has been living alone since - until I met my then-boyfriend, now-hubby. I lived in a dorm for 3 years, lived in a boarding house near the campus for a year, shared an apartment with close friends for a couple of years until I decided to get a pad for myself in 2002. Stayed there for a year then moved in with my then-boyfriend, now-hubby :) I am so used to deciding for myself (and now, others) that it ticks me off when people decide for me.
8.) I can't stand foot spas. I am so ticklish that everytime I have one done, I always think I am dying. Haha.
9.) I rarely put on make up. It never really fascinated me. I am a no-maintenance kind of woman.
10.) I own more than 40 pairs of shoes, mostly stilettos and wedges. I don't get to wear them all but I feel a certain kind of high just looking at the pairs neatly kept in their boxes.

the world has decided.

And the battle is over...

After countless sleepless nights, and long discussions with my mom while we burn the lines, the world has decided...

You cannot imagine how addicted I got to American Idol that I have slowly given up sleep (which remains very sacred to me) just so I can monitor the goings on. Last night, I watched the replay of Tuesday's showdown and it didn't end until past midnight. I blogged after and forced myself to bed afraid that my alarm clock would go crazy and nobody will wake me up for the next day's FINALE. I finally managed to sleep a little past 2 am and guess what? I am up and about a few minutes before 8 to prepare myself for the live telecast at Star World (thank God for sky cable!). No matter how groggy and cranky I was, I tried to keep my eyes open to watch. Good thing that my daughter decided to watch her daily dose of Dora and Sponge Bob in the living room. And my husband? Well, he's just as addicted as I am so he understands completely. We were both glued to the tube for 2 long hours (skipping breakfast and all).

I am very pleased about the results (I am sorry mom!). Very pleased that I literally cried when Ryan Seacrest announced that the American Idol for Season 7 is my David Cook! America and the rest of the world has a new idol to embrace. I have found another person to love (not romantically though), another person to admire, another person to be giddy about. At 30, I have a crush again!
As for my mom, I haven't called her up yet. I'll do that tomorrow. She may be sad that Archuleta lost but I know that she's happy that I have something to blog about. Hahaha!

LP # 7: water

(I am sad that I wasn't able to join last week's entry in LP so I made sure that I am still awake by the strike of 12 midnight so I will be one of the firsts to submit my water entry.

This photo was taken 4 summers ago when my then boyfriend now husband and I went to Boracay. It's quite obvious in the photo that I was still single because of my figure right? Hehehe. Now, after 4 years and many changes in between, the waters of Boracay have remained constant --- clean, calm and beautiful.

Happy Thursday and LP hopping to us all!)

wordless wednesday # 6

Check out her eyebrow. This is what happens when you leave a 2.8 year old girl alone even for just a split second...

She found my razor in the bathroom and tried it on her eyebrow, can you imagine? The yaya, I was told, just left her for less than a minute to grab a towel because she was about to be given her afternoon bath.

I was really mad primarily to the yaya for being so irresponsible in leaving her ward alone even for just a minute. I was also mad at the little girl that I made her walk in tub in the bathroom just so she would feel the gravity of her action.

This is a wordful wordless wednesday for me indeed.

what the davids sang

Hubby texted me a few minutes ago about how the 2 Davids fared in tonight's (or was it last night's) showdown (we are AI fanatics, handsdown). According to him, it was a knock out and that David Archuleta came there to win. Although that battle is far from over, I guess I have to give it to my mom that Archuleta is indeed gonna win. Oh well, let's just wait for the billboards and the charts to speak for themselves... (bitter ocampo? not!)

THE FINAL SET LIST

DAVID COOK
''I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For,'' U2
''Dream Big,'' Emily Shackelton
''The World I Know,'' Collective Soul

DAVID ARCHULETA
''Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," Elton John
''In This Moment,'' Ryan Gillmor
''Imagine,'' John Lennon

coffee break ver. 1.10

This will be the seocnd time that I'm gonna participate in Jan's coffee break session. I have been neck deep with work the past few weeks that composing an entry that's more than 2 paragraphs will be considered a tough task. Heee! So, when I checked this week's topic, I felt that it was kinda timely so no matter how busy I still am, here goes my entry:

For this week’s coffee break question:

How would you spend a rainy day on a lazy afternoon?

I used to hate rainy days. I remember back in high school, I had a friend named Rachel and we would call each other goddesses. She the goddess of rain, and I the goddess of the sun. On days that it was raining, she would be the queen but all the rest of the days when it was hot and sunny, I reign! My fascination for the sun has stayed on till college. I would abhor it so much when it rained, primarily because I didn't have a car to bring me to the university and rainy season would mean me lugging around an umbrella inside the classroom. It was freaking embarrasing especially because I had goodlooking classmates and profs! Aside from the fact that it was too much of a hassle to bring one, for some reason, rainy days make me really sad. It brings back really sad memories that in many occasions, I would sit by the window pane and cry. So more than hating the rain, I feared for its coming...

Now that I am older and I've got a family of my own, I have learned to accept the rain. I still feel sad but I have learned to do things that are worthwhile when it's raining. I read a good book while I curl up in bed (I'd fight over the comforters with my husband and daughter). I would cook something really good for my family. But most of the time, rainy days are spent by the window pane of our bedroom, just reminiscing about things I've experienced in the past.

syesha on alicia

I loved Syesha Mercado's rendition of Alicia Keys' If I Aint Got You during the Top 3 episode of AI Season 7. You bet she sings from her hear and soul. For someone to connect to whoever she is singing to is something. Trully a gem!

"If I Ain't Got You"

Some people live for the fortune
Some people live just for the fame
Some people live for the power, yeah
Some people live just to play the game
Some people think that the physical things
Define what's within
And I've been there before
But that life's a bore
So full of the superficial

[Chorus:]
Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you, Yeah

Some people search for a fountain
That promises forever young
Some people need three dozen roses
And that's the only way to prove you love them
Hand me the world on a silver platter
And what good would it be
With no one to share
With no one who truly cares for me

[Chorus:]
Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you, you, you
Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you, yeah

[Outro:]
If I ain't got you with me baby
So nothing in this whole wide world don't mean a thing
If I ain't got you with me baby

dressing up my bathroom

We have been living in our house (to which we fondly call home sweet home) for close to four years now. My then-boyfriend-now-hubby and I moved in together a quarter before we got married and we have not transferred to any place else since. I am pretty sure it would be hard letting go of that place once our small family grows with the arrival of our dear Santino.

But you see, just last night while I was taking a hot shower, I realized that our bathroom needs a makeover! And because I have not allowed anyone to touch anything in the house, it’s looking old and used now. So we decided to change some of the bathroom fixtures as they are really old and obsolete. I want some nice shower curtains and a heater just like my mother in laws’.

bangkok trip essentials

Hubby’s on it again. He won’t stop bugging me to plan ahead for our Bangkok trip (and it’s not even in the next 3 months!). He’s OC like that. He wants things planned ahead of time. How I wish I were like him. But I’m not. So, for his pleasure (because I’m pretty sure he’ll lurk here again), this is what I plan to do prior to our trip abroad:

1. check out the available flights to Bangkok via PAL
2. get a new luggage and trolly for Lizzie
3. roaming for both our mobile phones
4. check out
travel insurance online
5. contact my high school friend who have since migrated to Bangkok

bangkok here we come!

It’s almost final that we are going to Bangkok before the end of the year. And this early, I am so giddy and excited about planning for the trip. Shopping, sight seeing, relaxation and so many photo opportunities are in the top priority of what we will be doing there. What’s even more exciting is Lizzie will be 3 by then so unlike our HK trip last year, I’m sure she will enjoy this better as she will be able to remember the places that we will be visiting. It’s a good thing that I don’t have to bother myself with passport stuff as both mine and my hubby’s have been renewed and my daughter just got hers last year.

and it's finally over...

It's 12 midnight here in Manila and the last episode of American Idol's season 7 before the big night has ended. Since Friday, Star World has been running a marathon of the latest season of American Idol, as a recap before the grand finale this coming Wednesday. Imagine me and my husband, all glued to the tube just so we could watch the entire season (though we have watched most of them already before).

The remaining three contestants in season 7 of American Idol were given triple chance to make it to the upcoming finale next week as they serenade the audience with three songs each.

It kinda drew me closer to the finalists... the top 3 most especially. Tears were flowing down my cheeks when they showed their hometown visit episode. They were all good, I would say. Syesha is so pretty (not to mention sexy). David A is an adorable kid. Small but terrible. But David Cook will always be my number 1. Sorry mom, it's going to be Cook on the big day! Hahaha!

protecting your car

As I have mentioned in my other blog, I am helping out a friend who is in the process of buying her very first car. We have narrowed down our choices to the top three and it would only take a little time before we decide on what to get for her. The only thing that’s keeping us is the car insurance that goes with it. I told her that it is always best to get one for her own protection and peace of mind.

last hurrah for summer

Oh no! I can’t wait to hit the beach again! My friends and I are planning to go to a nearby beach resort by the end of the month. Sort of our last hurrah for summer. This early, I have been planning on what to bring and what to buy for the outing. Since I haven’t really used the tankini that mom brought for me last year, I’ll wear it there. Great savings here. At least, all I have to save up for is the vintage sunglasses that I have been eyeing since a few months back. I can’t wait!

she's going to be a bride!

I can’t believe that my best friend is finally tying the knot! This has been her ultimate dream and to say that happiness is in the air is like saying that there is snow in the North Pole. We talked lengthily about this milestone this morning and obviously I was tasked to be her maid of honor. I am ecstatic and excited. And I can’t believe that she is actually getting married!!! Oh no, too many things to do so I have to set my priorities straight. I need to organize a bridal shower fast and what better way to do it than to send out bridal shower invitations to our friends and loved ones? I’m pretty sure they will be as surprised as I am about the news.

kick the bucket

We had nothing to do last night so my husband suggested capping our mother’s day celebration by watching a really nice film on DVD. I had the hand in choosing which movie to watch so I decided that we play The Bucket List. I know, I know. It has been months already since we bought this CD but when my husband watched it the first time, he claimed that this was one of the saddest movies that he has ever seen in his entire life so I had to postpone our DVD date until today.

Watching The Bucket List makes you re-examine your priorities. I have my own “bucket list” already in place. It is written in my 2000 diary and is neatly kept somewhere only I know. After watching the film, I revisited my diary and made some revisions on my list.

Though the movie paled in comparison to the talents of its stars, it was enriching as I learned that recovery is not about putting an end to your pain. It is about learning to feel better again. It’s about moving on…

honoring a mother

Ems passed this on to me. According to the instructions, I have to choose my favorite quote and share it here. I have a lot of favorite sayings about moms so I opted to share one song I hold so close to my heart:

In my daughter's eyes (Martina Mcbride)
In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me gives me
strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes

And when she wraps her hand
around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about

It's hangin' on when your heart
has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy
she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes

If you are an Ass : A very loyal and sweet person. Your loyalty can never be doubted. You are quite honest and sincere when it comes to your attitude towards working. You are a very simple person, indeed. Absolutely hassle free, humble, and down-to-earth!! That explains the reason why your friends cling on to you! You have a good taste for clothes. If your wardrobe is not updated with what is trendy, you sure are depressed. Popular and easy-going. You have a little gr! oup of dignified friends, all of them being quality-personified.

If you are a Slug : Always up to some sort of a mischief! The mischievous gleam in your eyes is what mak e s you so cute and attractive to everyone. You are an extremely fun-to-be-with kind of person. No wonder people seek your company and look forward to include you for all get-together's. However, you are sensitive which is a drawback. People need to select their words while talking to you. If someone tries to fiddle around and play with words while dealing with you, it is enough to invite your wrath. God bless the person then!

If you are a Cockroach : Quite contradictory to your name, you are a peace loving person. You best try to avoid a situation wherein you are required to fight. An outdoor person, you dislike sitting at one place for a long duration. You are a born leader, and have it in you how to tactfull! y deriv e work from people. You love being loved and when you receive your share of limelight from s omeone, you are all theirs!!!! Well, well... Hence some people could even take an advantage, flatter you to the maximum and get their work done. So be careful.....

If you are a Parasite : An extremely lovable, adorable person, sometimes shy, with a passion for quick wit. At times, you prefer quietness. You love exploring various things and going into depth of each thing. Under normal circumstances you're cool but when given a reason to, you are like a volcano waiting to erupt. You're a fashion bird. People look forward to you as an icon associated with fashion. Basically, you mingle along freely but don't like talking much to strangers. People feel very easy in your company. You observe care in choosing your friends.

If you are a Skunk : You are near to perfect and nice at heart! . The e xamples of your kindness are always circulated in groups of people. You, too, love peace. You wouldn't like to retaliate even to a person who is in the wrong. You are loved due to this. You do not wish to talk behind one's back. People love the way you always treat them. You can give, give, and give love, and the best part is that you do not expect it back in return. You are generous enough. Seeing things in a practical light is what remains the best trait of you guys.

If you are a Bullfrog : You symbolize a very happy-go-lucky approach in life. Whatever the surroundings may be, grim or cheerful, you remain unaffected. In fact, you spread cheer wherever you go. You are the leader of your group of fri ends! and go od at consoling pe ople in their times of need. You dislike hypocrisy and tend to shirk away from hypocrites. They can never be in your good books, no matter what. You are very methodical and organized in your work. No amount of mess, hence, can ever encompass you. Beware, it is easy for you to fall in love....

If you are a Snake : You are mysterious. You are someone who can handle pressure with ease, and can handle any atmosphere without going berserk. You can be mean at times, and love to gossip with your selected group. Very prim and proper. You like all situations and things to be in the w! ay you desire, which, sometimes is not possible. As a result, you may lose out in some relationships. But otherwise, you love to help people out from difficult and tight spots when they really need you.

If you are an Ape : Very impatient and hyper!!! You want things to be done as quick as possible. At heart, you are quite simple and love if you are the center of attraction. That way, you people are unique. You would like to keep yourself safe from all the angles. Shall your name be dragged or featured in any sort of a controversy, you then go all panicky. Therefore, you take your precautions from the very beginning. When you foresee anything wrong, your sixth sense is what saves you from falling in traps. Quite a money minded bunch you people are.

a different kind of mother's day

Because I am going to work on Sunday, hubby and I decided to spend Mother's Day in advance. I didn't really want to make a big fuss out of it but he insisted so who am I to refuse the offer, right? Hehehe..

We had a really late lunch at Martabak, an Indonesian restaurant at The Block. We ordered the best that they have (of course!) We had Rendang Sapi, Nasi Goreng, Kari Ayam and some iced tea. I would say that it was a pleasant surprise I actually liked the taste of Indonesian food. We had all the dishes served spicy yet it didn't burn our tongues. Their rice was filling and really superbly done. The serving was enough for 2 and their staff were cordial. I don't normally go back to a restaurant I am not familiar with but after that lunch date at Martabak, I guess trying it out again won't hurt at all.

After lunch, we shopped a little for me and got a toy for the little girl (we left her with my in laws so hubby and I can have the day to ourselves). We chose a Dora bubble squirter for her, plus a year's supply of bubble foam so she can squirt all she wants :). We also grabbed a few books at Fully Booked and some magazines, too. Afterwhich, hubby gave me the best birthday gift in the world -- going bald! You see, he has been sporting a semi-long hair that he can't manage at all so for months now, I have been bugging him to go to the barber shop and have his hair chopped off. It's only now that he gave in and let me get my wish. Thanks, dad! You just don't know how gorgeous you are again.

It was a fun day. No frills whatsoever. Just a sweet date with the most important man in my life.

my list.

Things to buy over the weekend:

1. toiletries
2. pens and a new budget notebook.
3. cooler for my laptop.
4.
flash drive
5. a new book for my night table.
6. lizzie’s coloring book and some new crayons (the washable ones this time)

Too many things to buy, I figured. With the sky rocketing prices of all the commodities these days, I better make sure that I am getting the value for my money. Let me check out and compare prices first. Hmmm…

how protected are you?

One of the things that I admire about my in laws is their penchant for saving for the future. Aside from their bank savings, they also have invested in real estate and the like. They want to make sure that they are set for life just in case all else will fail. I am grateful that at such an early age (even before we got married), they have introduced to my husband the term life insurance. By doing so, my husband learned the importance of saving and investing on something solid for our family’s future.

cornered.

May 6 was my in laws' 30th wedding anniversary. Unlike the past years, they opted for a quiet celebration this time. As I have mentioned here, my mom was in the hospital for a few days before the big day that explains why there was no preparation at all for it. My MIL confirmed the dinner with me after lunch of the same day so I had to reserve seats for that same night asap! Good thing, it was a Tuesday and they were not fully booked. So, we had a quiet family dinner at 7 Corners of The Crowne Plaza. To say that we had a grand time was an understatement. The lobsters and prawns were fresh. The steak was juicy and tender. The sushi bar was aplenty. There was lechon de leche. The salad bar was a delight. And the sweets? They were to die for! Check out some of the photos taken from that night.

And for my inlaws -- May you be blessed with more years of love and togetherness. Thanks for inspiring us all the time. Happy 30th anniversary Mama and Daddy!
