bon appetit

My husband requested that we have salad for dinner last night. I stayed at home playing with my daughter the whole day so I thought it was the best time to make a good garden salad. When the little girl dozed off for her daily afternoon nap, I dropped by the groceries to grab some greens, cucumber, croutons and chicken. I wanted to serve something special so I thought of adding chicken strips and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. It was more expensive than a regular meal (rice and viand) but since both of us are on a very strict diet, it was worth it.

Since Lizzie needs a balanced diet, I made her crab and corn soup and some chicken strips with nugget sauce. She was screaming "yikes yikes! Dada is a goat! Dada's eating grass!" Although, she likes looking at the salad, I would need to convince her that it is edible.

We had a hearty dinner and I retired really early because I need to be in the office before 5am the next day. Enjoy the photos!

Yen's QOTW # 4

1. When you see a man and woman walking together, do you automatically see them as ‘a couple’?
>>>Nope. I am the most dense when it comes to checking out status of people hahahah!

2. Is it always okay to walk along minding your own business, not bothering anyone?
>>>That's my mantra! Golden rule, baby! I wouldn't want people minding my business so I shut up and let them be =)

3. Which foods that you believe are bad for you that you stubbornly refuse to stop eating?
>>>The salty ones!

4. How would you handle these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights?
>>>I'd honestly go wild, wild, wild!! Hay naku, you wouldn't wanna see me at that state...

5. Do you easily adopt habits or phrases from the people around you?
>>>From my gay friends, yes. But I automatically switch to my normal self at home. The husband doesn't want our daughter to pick up gay lingo. Jologs daw, ako nalang.

6. What do you think of this situation?
~ In a checkout line at a store, someone is angrily yelling at the cashier because she’s waiting for minutes already. A long line of people are behind them with no other checkout line available. Does the angry person have a right to be yelling?
>>>I guess so.

7.How often are you greeted by strangers in a friendly manner while walking around in public? >>>A lot.

8. What do you think of Crocs?
>>>My family's staple shoe wear. From the dad to the little girl.

9. How long does it take you to get ready to go out?
>>>30mins tops! I am a no-frills person.

10. What kind of accent do you find attractive?
>>>French but I love the Aussies when the converse.

lizzie's birthday gift

My daughter will be turning three on September 19. She badly wants a Dora Birthday party although her dad and I are against giving her a blast this year. We want to teach her the value of simplicity so we are planning to forego an axtravagant celebration this year. This is still an open discussion because the grandparents want to support whatever the child wishes. Depends. Depends.

Hubby and I only wants a simple lunch with the kids in the store. And with that lunch, we are planning to give her a modern furniture that she will cherish in her lifetime, I was thinking of a nice Kip Bed. I saw one online and I had my dad contact them. It's perfect that they do free shipping in the US. I'll have it ship to my dad's address first then dad sends it over to us in time for her birthday.

What do you plan to give a 3 year old girl for her birthday?

my scattergories start with an F!

Thanks Babs for tagging me once more. I am super lazy for personal updates although I managed to post one. Heeee!

Erase my answers, enter yours, send it on to your friends. *Use the 1st letter of your name to answer each of the following... *They have to be real places, names, things. Nothing made up! Try to use different answers if the person in front of you had the same 1st initial. You CAN'T use your name for the boy/girl name question;

WHAT IS YOUR NAME – Farah
4 LETTER WORD – Fate
VEHICLE – Ferrari

CITY – France

BOY NAME – Felix
OCCUPATION – Farmer

SOMETHING YOU WEAR – FlipFlops
SOMETHING FOUND IN A BATHROOM – Feminine wash named Carefree
REASON FOR BEING LATE – Fire?!?!

SOMETHING YOU SHOUT – Fuck!

Tagging along Abie, Val and Pat.

i hate to love it

I resolve.
I will only buy my very first LV if it's like the one below:

Speedy's are great and so are mini lins and neverfulls, but almost everyone has it (nevermind if it's fake or real heeee!) so I'd rather ba a "Pia" from "that movie" and trot with this heavenly man-made cutie!

Segue to the movie that we watched a couple of nights ago. Right after work, my good friends and I went to see "For the first time" in a cinema beside our office. In all fairness to Pia, she was extremely beautiful natotomboy nako sa kanya! Hahaha! And her clothes, OMG! She could wear a flowing blue dress and look good at it, and in another scene, wear a white top wth really short shorts and still look perfect in it. Her accent is good. Hindi pilit. And although she really can't act, forgivable na rin because she's pretty talaga. As for Seth, aside from the goodlooks and his uber sexy body, so-so lang the performance. It was tooo saccharine to the taste talaga. Their tandem, I mean.

We had a good laugh alright. And my friend, Tina felt that she was Pia for a good 2 hours (kras nya si Seth) so okay na din. Candy actually made our day! Sinulit nya yung 150.00 na binayad namin sa movie. Hahahah!

friday 5

1. What was the last song that stuck in your brain and wouldn’t go away?
::: I'm a little teapot -- I heard my daughter singing it this morning and I have been singing the same song over and over all throughout the day! Haaaah!
2. What’s something that sticks around long after you wish it would leave?

::: Smell of sauteed garlic in the kitchen
3. To what use did you put your last sticky note?

::: To remind the maid that she needs to go to the clubhouse at 9am to pay for the association dues and water bills. I was too sleepy to give instructions this morning as I just came from Quiapo for my weekly 4am mass.
4. When did you last have Pixy Stix?

::: I was never a Pixy Stix fan although my mom used to send us packs and packs of it when we were younger. I am a certified Nerds fan though.
5. What is something you are a stickler for?
::: ...the truth. Everyone is.

litratong pinoy # 23 :: reject reject reject!

Before I even gave birth to Lizzie, I have promised myself that she will grow up to be nice, level-headed and generous. I want her to grow up not being greedy and selfish and I wish her to always think of the needs of others before herself. That is how I was raised by my own parents and it has led me to a better, happier and more comfortable life primarily because I know that I am not stepping on someone's toes, I am not hurting someone's feelings. Of all the things that I wouldn't want to happen is for her to grow up selfish, greedy and revengeful that's the reason why as early as now, I am exposing her to the reality of life and it's two faces. I am teaching her how to deal with all sorts of people from all walks of life. I hate brats. That's why I am hands on in raising her.

wednesday weirdness # 1

1. How often do you talk to your siblings?
:: I have only one sibling so we make it a point to keep in touch as often as possible by sending SMS every day and calling each other up at least twice a week.

2. How well do you deal when given an ultimatum?
:: I am a stickler for deadlines so I don't need ultimatums.

3. Have you ever dated someone or had a lover who had an emotional or mental disorder?
:: Hahaha! Yes. And I am glad we broke up because I don't imagine spending my lifetime with him at all. He may be the smartest but defeintely the craziest! Nevermind. Yikes!

4. How do you feel about crossdressing?
:: I am not for it but I am not against it. To each his own.

5. Have you ever lied about the number of sexual partners you have had to someone? Why?
:: Why should I?

6. Does your significant other have the same political and religious views that you do? How often do you discuss politics and religion with them?
:: Yes, we do have the same religious views and we discuss about politics when in the car or when we're bored in bed.

7. What sport, if any, do you find to be most boring?
:: I would say golf.

8. Have you ever honestly peed in the pool?
:: Yes.

jan's coffeebreak discussion

Traffic is the worst enemy of any traveller whether he commutes or he drives. This is a proven fact.

How will you keep yourself busy in the middle of a traffic jam?

I live near my workplace so traffic at its worst is still manageable. I can't imagine working in Makati or Alabang because I live in Cainta and yes, the traffic will really kill me (or I might kill because of it!). To answer this week's coffeebreak discussion, I guess it really depends whether or not I'm commuting or driving to work...

When I'm the passenger, traffic is not a problem because I just sit there and relax. The only favor that my husband slash driver asks from me is to not sleep on him so I turn on my machine gun mouth and talk away (until he gets irritated with my voice that he asks me to shut up for a while). I act as the DJ because I choose which songs to play, I shuffle the ipod and modulate the volume. I also sing inside the car (to his dismay always hahaha!). But most of the time, I initiate the planning of our lives in the middle of a traffic jam. Believe it or now, we usually come up with brilliant ideas and action plans when on the road. On some occasions, we play games (form words from the plate numbers infront of us, look for the word).

Now this is the hard part. When I am behind the steering wheel, I am very serious so the only thing that keeps me busy when caught in the middle of traffic is 1) I curse! (i curse a lot when I'm driving, you ask my husband or anybody riding with me) and 2) I play cruisin' over and over again! (that's my national anthem).

tomorrow is...

...payday!!!

But as early as now, I am having bouts of headache in budgetting for the house. The end of the month is usually the bloody part so expect headaches, bad temper and a bitch to come out of my system hahaha!!!

I have a lot to do and as much I hate doing it, I need to create a list. Redundant na masyado because I keep a diary, a budget notebook and now, this.

O sya sige na nga Ü
1. Pay the bills - Meralco, PLDT, H20, cards
2. Give Yaya her salary
3. Pay for our "luho" - digicam, ipod
4. Deposit in My BDO and Lizzie's BDO (naku Farah! Don't forget! or you will be deadmeat again!)

Ill continue with the list at home. My husband is already at the parking lot! Ciao! Ü

wordless wednesday - a drink or two

I don't drink. I don't normally drink. But if the occasion calls for it, I'd gladly sip a glass of wine or two and that's it for me. Call me a dork but that's just how I am. You can't count on me to eat non stop but I am a bad drinking buddy. So sorry.

A couple of weekends ago, my officemates and I, together with my husband went "all out war" to celebrate our defeat (sadly) in the Virgin Basketball games at Katips. They all drank and got drunk. Some passed out (booo!), others were on a super laugh trip. But me. I quietly observed them all. Silently laughing while documenting their every move with my point and click camera. I got the last laugh. Hahahaha!

my husband's staple drink -- whiskey on the rocks (he said goodbye to beer when he started lifting weights a few months ago)

this is my friend Roanne's drink for the night -- Mandarin currant on ice. I gobbled up the cherries before she can even complain. Hehehe!

What's your favorite drink?

hair cut.

I was a dutiful mom and wife over the weekend. First off, I brought Lizzie to my hairdresser for that much needed haircut. She has been bugging me about her hair for a couple of weeks or so now that she has memorized her lines whenever her dad asks her what she wants to do over the weekend. The conversation goes like this:

LIZZIE: Mom, I really need a haircut!

ME: Not yet, Lizzie. Wait for mama's appointment with the stylist.

DADA: What do you want to do, baby?

LIZZIE: Cut my hair dada! Look dada o, I can't see anymore! Look at my bangs na o. Long na o!

DADA: Where will you go for you hair cut?

LIZZIE: David's Salon

DADA: Who will cut your hair?

LIZZIE: Ate Corina (Karina cuts her Lola's hair)

So, from this hairstyle more than a month ago...

...to this...

this is Lizzie now, minus the arte of course.

And since Arthuz has been complaining of a lot of things in his body, it was the perfect time for us to go to the doctor to have his warts cauterized, teeth extracted and health checked. In short, overhaul talaga! Spending a good 6 hours at Medical City is not a good idea for someone as impatient as me. My husband was trying his very best to entertain me lest I'll just be my bitchy self and throw tantrums in the hospital (hahaha! I am capable of doing that Ü).

Arthuz with the derma. Yes folks, he is afraid of needles... =)

6. Essay type questions. I always go for fill in in the banks.

10. PE classes - I hate changing from my uniform to my PE uniform.

My roommate and I once: fought over a lot of things. We were good friends back in college but we always didn't see things eye to eye. Maybe because we both had very strong personalities. We're both mommies now and we catch up with each other's lives through email and social networking.
Never in my life have I: skydived!
High school was: fun fun fun!! It was all about building solid friendships and enjoying each other's company.
When I’m nervous: I stutter and I can't think straight.
My hair: is one of my greatest assets. It has never undergone any treatment. The farthest I have done with it is a simple hot oil in the parlor.

When I was 5: My mom left for the US to work.
When I turn my head left: I can see my sister in law's desktop (I am at their place right now)
I should be: checking out on commercial collection agencies in the net for my cousin's research paper. Instead, I am busy plurking and surfing and chatting. Bad bad bad.

By this time next year: I should be heavy with Santino already.
My favorite aunt is: in Las Vegas now.
I have a hard time understanding: numbers
You know I like you if: I spend time with you.
My ideal breakfast is: a cup of hot coffee and a bagel with cream cheese.
If you visit my home town: you'll enjoy wakeboarding, viewing a perfect coned volcano and bingeing on sili and laing.

If you spend the night at my house: We won't be sleeping because we will have a grand time! The animal I would like to see flying besides birds: elephants
I shouldn’t have been: waiting for things to happen when I could have done something to make it happen.
Last night I: was in a webex session with my friends.
A better name for me would be: Gabriela

I’ve been told I look like: a lot of people but the best compliment that I ever got was when my friend Babs told me I look like Barbara Perez.
If I could have any car, it would be: a hummer

awareness is the key

Eversince the day that I learned about my very good friend's mom suffering from cancer, I have been very dilegent in researching about this sickness not because of anything but mainly because I want some awareness on the matter. Cancer is a very dangerous enemy and if one is not aware of it, he will surely lose the battle.

This morning, I was busy channel surfing when I chanced upon a health show in one of the cable channels featuring mesothelioma. To be very honest, this is the first time that I have heard of this sickness so I was so focused on the show. Towards the end, I realized that nothing should be feared since there are sites and affiliates that we can rely on in case sickness like this strike in our homes.

As a final note, I have learned that in life, awareness is always the key for survival.

jan's coffeebreak

Jan knows how I love participating in her coffeebreak discussions. I only beg off when I am neck deep with office work or if I can't really share anything about the topic (which is very rare really). So, here I am again.

There were too many worries and fears when you are young but you don't really feel it because you are enjoying your life. You're carefree and you feel as if you can do everything when in reality, you can't.

My fears and worries in high school (as I have learned when I started going to college) are trivial as compared to my college classmates who grew up here in Manila. UPCAT. NSAT. Military Parade. Senior's Night. Grad Ball. These are the only things that bothered me back then. I didn't have a boyfriend because 1) I was so scared of my brother and 2) I was busy and active in school activities.

Lizzie will be getting there in 12 or 13 years time. And this early, I am already preparing her on how to handle such fears and worries. She doesn't understand it yet but she is beginning to have a concept of life and it's realities. I want her to grow up as fiercely independent as the woman who brought her forth into this world.

Yen's QOTW # 3

1. Are you easily influenced by other people or current trends?
::My husband always says I am deadma when it comes to my friends influencing my lifestyle. I guess, he is correct. I just got so used to doing things my way. I am not a fan of current trends and I live my life the way I want it to be.
2. What makes you unique (in your own opinion)?

::Probably my voice.
3. Name 3 of your worst quality.

::I get violent when I am really mad, I forgive and forget easily, I am an impulsive spender.
4. Name 3 of your best.

::I value my friends, I keep promises and my faith and loyalty is one for the books.
5. Describe the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you.

::There's really a lot and it's hard picking one. But for this questionnaire, perhaps its my parents and in laws' concern for my family. Big things. Small things. They are all the same. I am grateful.
6. Tell me about your dream last night.

:: I dreamt about my friends Inkee and Jayme getting married. I was so happy in my dream.
7. What is the most expensive item you own?

::discounting my daughter because she's is not an item (hahaha!), I would say my engagement ring and our wedding bands.
8. How about the least expensive?

::my lip balm?
9. Do you ever leave little notes to your partner?

:: You can ask him, I am the sweetest creature on earth. I love showering him with small surprises (at type na type nya yun!)
10. When you’re talking, do you ever use your hands in the air to do quotation marks of certain words?

:: Only when I do presentation (to clients or my bosses). I don't do that in casual conversations or chikahan moments with my friends.

I love your questions this week, Yenny!

Everyone dreams of becoming rich. Who doesn't? As for me, I have always wished, eversince my childhool days, of owning my own McDonalds outlet. I clearly remember before, I asked my mother to buy me a "cash register" because I want to have a feel of punching things on them (but I still am the owner!). Now, I still wish of owning one not anymore because of the cash register and cashiering but because I want to give all the happy meals to my daughter.

wordless wednesday - angel gabrielle

This is a photo of another angel in my family. Her name is Aubrey Gabrielle and she was born last Wednesday. Her bedimpled cheek is simnply irresistable. Fragile. Innocent. She's sure to bring a different kind of happiness to all of us.

Yen's QOTW # 2

After ten million years, I am once again joining Yen in her questions of the week. I just wish I give justice to all her questions:

1. How is the weather like outside?
::: It's almost 9 in the evening, it didn't rain nor drizzle but the weather is A-OK. Perfect for sleeping. Not too humid, not too cold. I can sleep with a light blanket tonight, thank heavens!
2. If you’re given an hour to raid a closet of a blogger friend who would you choose? And what would you get?

::: Pazette, only because I want to know where she stores all her nice finds. Heee!
3. Do any of you know why we sneeze? Where did “God Bless You” originate?

::: I only know that if we start sneezing continuously, some allergies are forming in our bodies and colds will soon follow.
4. Which is worse? Finding a bug in your sandwich or a very curly hair in your soup?

::: Both are eeky and not acceptable.
5. What is the color in your room you are in right now?

:::Beige and Yellow
6. If I asked every person that you’ve kissed, they’d say that your kisses are tentative, wild, intense, or sweet?

::: My husband will say it's wild, my daughter - sweet, my friends - tentative? Hahaha!
7. Which do you prefer, Not eat for lunch or not eat for supper? Why?

::: Not to eat for supper. I can burn the calories I took for lunch but it's tougher burning the ones you took for supper. Besides, I have implemented the after 6 diet in my house.
8. It’s August already, which month so far was the best month ever? Why?

::: June! Why? Everything seems to be falling into it's proper place. Weee to that!
9. If you could write a book that was guaranteed to be published, what would it be about?
::: Probably about my daughter, Alyssa.
10. If there was an extra hour in the day, what would you spend it doing?

::: Earning more money...

selling like hot pancakes

Last saturday, while waiting for the UAAP games to start on Ch23, I surfed on some good stuff about cars in the internet. The only reason why I was doing so was because my dad was asking for my and hubby's help on some accessories needed for his car. My dad owns a 1994 Ford Mustand and although, it has been used for more than a decade now, the quality has not changed you would deem it as still brand new. Perhaps, it has also something to do with how he cares for his car. He loves it like a baby and would not mind spending a bit more for things he need to add on just so it would look and run nicer. While changing sites, I was in awe checking on really nice accessories for a mustang. The Mustang exhaust that is being offered online are fantastic and what's even more enticing is that they ship it for free! I don't doubt the quality of this and is really excited to see my dad's car in full power. The car performs quite excellently already so with the addition of the exhaust system and the other accessories, I am confident that his car, without a shadow of a doubt, will perform perfectly and the sound will be better than ever! How's that for a great deal? I better start calling my dad now so he could check it himself and start deciding now. I just hope they won't run out of supply. With a deal as great as this, there's no wonder this will be sold out in no time!

This photo was taken during the All Out War games held at the Ateneo Grade School grounds over the weekend.

Push On VMA!

Although we did not win the crown, Virgin Mobile Australia were delighted to have landed 1st runner up in yesterday's championships held at the Ateneo Grade School gym. We won over Virgin Media but lost to Virgin Mobile USA. All good, though. We still had a blast in Katips.

Another laurel added to our caps. Such great pride brought to the country. This girl sang heavenly. She reminds me of an angel singing in the horizon.

Good times.

randomness tag

randomness...feed your mind and your blog
1. Do you enjoy going to the beach? I sure do! It gives me a different kind of relaxation and after every beach getaway, I somehow feel rejuvenated. Don't you?
2. When you go, how long do you stay there? It depends. Usually, it's overnight or a couple of nights stay.
3. What do you do while at the beach? Do you swim? Lay out in the sand?
Surf? Jet ski? Take lots of pictures! Hehehe... Soak in the sun. Read. Eat. I dress up!
3. Do you pack alot or travel lightly? Now that I am a mom, I pack my house! I used to travel light but that changed when I had Lizzie.
4. Do you collect seashells while you are there? Not really. Those are dust collectors.

till next time....

a woman's best friend

When I was a small girl, my mom would always tell me that shoes are a woman's best friend. I never understood her until I grew up and was exposed to all kinds of shoes. If there's one person who shares the same passion as my mom, it has to be me. We love collecting shoes from the branded to the cheap ones you can buy in thrift shops. It's an addiction more than anything else. It's something beyond words. Perhaps, this is one of the very reasons why I am all excited to visit my mom in the US. She told me that she found this online store that offers Beautifeel shoes. I can start checking out their site and when I get there, we are going to visit one of their nearby shops too! Giddy giddy, I know!

all out war

For the first 2 sundays of August, we are in an all out war.

No, don't get me wrong. We are not fighting against anybody. It's just how the basketball games are called. This is a competition among 4 of the biggest Virgin accounts in Manila. Virgin Blue, Virgin Media (UK), Virgin Mobile (US) and our own Virgin Mobile (Australia).

Last Sunday, the games were held in WCC, Mandaluyong. I organized the pep squad for my company so I was there, under the heat of the sun, wearing my red jacket, sweating but very happy that we were able to nail our second game against VB. It was a day of chants, cheers, yells and intense action. The boys played excellently. The girls were supporting all the way. Clients were very pleased with the performance. It was a once in a lifetime event. Great. Great. Great.
The games this Sunday will be held at the Ateneo gym. Are we capable of bringing home the crown? I am confident but the ball is round. We'll see...

litratong pinoy # 21 : travel, travel, leisure, leisure...

Year 2005 when my husband was fortunate enough to have travelled to Australia. He stayed there for almost 2 months because of a very important work. In one of his chances to go around, he was able to visit the "Big Brother House" which draws a lot of crowd and viewership even here in our country. He knows too well how I used to love the show so he had a photo taken outside the house...

and gabbie was her name...

She is finally here!!!!

At exactly half past 2 in the afternoon today, Shine, my dearest sister in law gave birth to this wonderful, pretty and sweet little girl named Gabbie. It has not been a smooth ride for the family as Shine was diagnosed to have PIH or Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (commonly knows as Pre Eclampsia). Although, she is just on her 26th week, the baby came out healthy at 5 lbs (medyo kalahati lang ni Lizzie). Her body parts are complete and she smiles and giggles a lot on her first day.

To all my friends who prayed with my family... thank you so much. All your prayers and sweet wishes and thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Please enjoy some of her photos. I will post more in the coming days.

wordless wednesday - tranquil waters

This photo was taken by my best friend in Club Noah Isabelle in Palawan. She worked there for a couple of years before shofting careers (again!) I have not seen her since last year and am aching for another impromptu dinner and drinks with her soon!
