no overpowering

Many relationships fail because one party tries to overpower another,or demands too much. People in love tend to think that love will conquer all and their spouses will change the bad habits after marriage. Actually, this is not the case. There is a Chinese saying which carries the meaning that "It is easier to reshape a mountain or a river than a person's character."

It is not easy to change. Thus, having high expectation on changing the spouse character will cause disappointment and unpleasantness.

It would be less painful to change ourselves and lower our expectations..

litratong pinoy # 49 : shoe salon

this pair i bought very recently. i am very fond of janylin eversince i started working. almost all my stilettos were bought in this shop. this is almost 4 inches high but it doesn't strain my legs. really.

bought this pair specifically for my sister in law's wedding last january 0f 2009. i love the sexiness of the shoes and the comfort it brings to my feet. i also like the color as it makes my feet a tad fairer. heee!

fountain of youth

As I was driving on my way to work very early this morning (around 5am), I was stunned by a group of young boys and girls shouting, taking snapshots, kissing and having fun. They obviously have not closed their eyes for even a sec. They were fresh from a "gimik" (or probably still in one). The girls in their stilettos and skimpy skirts and the boys noticeably drunk are all over the floor of a famous bar in EW, QC.

Here I am, a 30ish working mother - fresh out of the shower, refreshed from a restful sleep and ready to embrace the new hope that this morning brings. There they are, 18-19ish teeners, probably enjoying their summer breaks -- wasted, loud, sleep-deprived and surely enjoying the time of their lives.

Am I that old to not understand them? Or is it really because the youth now have changed big time?

Today's and yesterday's values are far and wide, I would say.

The values of today's youth have taken a steep dive, especially in the moral aspect. Don't you agree?

Now, let me go back to my research on microdermabrasion.

creating perfect relationships?

A person visited the government matchmaker for marriage, SDU, and requested "I am looking for a spouse. Please help me to find a suitable one." The SDU officer said, "Your requirements, please." "Oh, good looking, polite, humorous , sporty, knowledgeable, good in singing and dancing. Willing to accompany me the whole day at home during my leisure hour, if I don't go out. Telling me interesting stories when I need companion for conversation and be silent when I want to rest." The officer listened carefully and replied, "I understand you need television."

There is a saying that a perfect match can only be found between a blind wife and a deaf husband ,because the blind wife cannot see the faults of the husband and the deaf husband cannot hear the nagging of the wife. Many couples are blind and deaf at the courting stage and dream of perpetual perfect relationship. Unfortunately, when the excitement of love wears off, they wake up and discover that marriage is not a bed of roses. The nightmare begins.

no pointing fingers

A man asked his father-in-law, "Many people praised you for a successful marriage. Could you please share with me your secret?" The father-in-law answered in a smile, "Never criticize your wife for her shortcomings or when she does something wrong. Always bear in mind that because of her shortcomings and weaknesses, she could not find a better husband than you." We all look forward to being loved and respected. Many people are afraid of losing face.

Generally, when a person makes a mistake, he would look around to find a scapegoat to point the finger at. This is the start of a war. We should always remember that when we point one finger at a person, the other four fingers are pointing at ourselves. If we forgive the others, others will ignore our mistake too.

long vacation

I can't wait for April to arrive. I have a hundred and one reasons to be excited. First is, after more than a year, we are going home to my province again to spend the holy week with my brother and his family. That means fun in the sun and a bit of wakeboarding too! I am also excited about the week after that because I filed for a week long break from work. This has taken its toll on my health so I guess I needed a break. Besides, I want to enjoy quality moments with my new baby --- my new notebook computer that hubby purchased as his anniversary gift for me. Wheeew!

lights out!

I will be participating in Earth Hour by turning off house lights where appropriateon March 28, 8:30-9:30 p.m. Everyone can participate.

enhancing relationships 1

TRUST is a very important factor for all relationships. When trust is broken, it is the end of the relationship. Lack of trust leads to suspicion, suspicion generates anger, anger causes enmity and enmity may result in separation. A telephone operator told me that one day she received a phone call. She answered, "Public Utilities Board." There was silence. She repeated, "PUB." There was still no answer. When she was going to cut off the line, she Heard a lady's voice, "Oh, so this is PUB. Sorry, I got the number from my Husband's pocket but I do not know whose number it is." Without mutual trust, just imagine what will happen to the couple if the telephone operator answered with just "hello" instead of "PUB".

my bestfriend's favorite

After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesn’t mean leaning
and company doesn’t always mean security.
And you begin to learn
that kisses aren’t contracts
and presents aren’t promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman,
not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow’s ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down
in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn…

( Author's note: This poem has been plagiarized, bastardized, renamed, reworded, redesigned, expanded and reduced. But it is my work, which I wrote at the age of 19 and had published in my college yearbook. Why anyone would want to claim it is beyond me, but for what it's worth, I wrote it, and if I'd known it was going to be this popular, I'd have done a better job of it. - V.S. )

Moved by Taken

After our family dinner at King Bee last Tuesday, my hubby and I, together with my sister in law and her husband all trooped to SLE Cinemas to watch the movie taken. We asked my in laws to babysit L first and we'll just collect her after.

To say that I had goosebumps all over and in hysteria is clearly an understatement. I have to agree with my good ole friend Shan when she said that Liam was asteeg!!!

And to snag the lines that he uttered in the movie ---

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."

Talagang asteeg ka Liam! Right, Shan? =)

What better favorite jewelries can I have but my engagement and wedding rings? This was taken in NAIA a few days after we got married, and we were on our way to Singapore and Malaysia for our honeymoon. Did you know that until today, I haven't removed these in my fingers?

Signs you're dating a loser

What's wrong with me? Why didn't I see it before? These are the cries of a woman who realizes she's fallen for the tricks of a dog, a loser, or a deadbeat. It may be asking too much to expect a relationship resume from the men you date to make sure they're not losers, but you can educate yourself on the warning signs and make it a strict policy of three strikes and you're out!

Conversational Warning Signs

1. His car is the love of his life – If he talks about his car more than he does the significant relationship in his life, you should plan on coming in second to his car as well.

2. Overt sexual innuendos – On his t-shirt, bumper sticker, online profile, with his eyes or out his mouth, overt sexual innuendos suggests an immature and/or ugly person. He won’t fulfill your fantasies in the bedroom or as a partner.

3. It’s always somebody else’s fault – A mature person takes responsibility for their part in misfortunes. A guy who plays the blame game is juvenile, insecure and unable to humble his heart enough to truly love someone else.

4. Bad work history – Inquire about his work history and ask plenty of questions. His resume will tell you how dependable and responsible he is, what he’s interested in, and even how he deals with conflict. You can see if he has a clue where he wants to be in life, how far he is (or isn’t) on his journey toward goals, and information on his financial stability.

5. Constantly correcting you – If he can’t help but correct you during your conversation, don’t disregard it. That can be incredibly irritating, but also is a sign that he’s got a complex and needs to find ways to feel bigger than you to feel good about himself.

6. Talks way more than he listens – Self-consumed people don’t have room in their hearts for others. On the contrary, active listeners, people who ask questions and more questions to get to know you better, are generous and open minded.

7. Tells you that he isn’t looking for a commitment – He means it, so don’t bother wasting your time with them.

8. Comments more about your appearance than your personality – While attraction is first based on looks, your inner beauty is what carries it to a deeper level. You want to make sure that he cares more about who you are as a person than how you look with your clothes off.

9. They make racist or sexist comments – There is no excuse for anyone to still be under the assumption that people are less worthy than others based on race or sex. Any sign of that and it’s over.

Behavior Warning Signs

1. Gambling – Gambling is a tricky addiction. It can be hard to identify. If you notice that he gambles fairly often and also has questionable finances, you can bet that it’s a problem.

2. Entitlement – If he goes about his days like the world owes him something, then he has a major character flaw, entitlement. You can tell if he is one of these guys by how he treats others, how he deals with disappointment, and how much he consumes. If he consumes more than he should (demands more attention than he gives, wastes more money than he gives, causes more drama than he prevents, and produces more garbage than the average person,) it suggests that he’s lazy and selfish with his life.

3. Never wants to go anywhere – If your guy is a home-body, you’ve got to wonder why. Is he a video game junkie? Is he depressed and uninterested in life? Maybe he’s afraid of seeing the other women he’s dating, or maybe he’s just plain lazy.

4. Changes his attitude often – A change in his tune could mean a whole slew of things, but all of them are bad, so I won’t go into it other than to say they range from guilt to mental illness to a way of manipulating you.

5. Checks out other women – If he’s looking somewhere else, he isn’t looking for you, so be on your way.

6. No license or no car – Unless he lives in an area where using public transportation is the thing to do, you can bet that bad life choices are the reason your man doesn’t have any wheels. If it’s no license, be aware that it takes a lot of naughtiness to get your license revoked or even suspended in most cases.

7. Makes fun of the less fortunate – If your date comments about anyone less fortunate than he, especially if they are poking fun at someone for having less money, being less attractive, or having a mental health problem, it's a bad sign.

Warning Signs on the Homefront

1. He lives with his mother – Unless he is caring for an elderly mother or rescuing her from foreclosure by shacking up with her, it’s a sure sign he’s a loser.

2. Has a bong displayed as décor – You can be sure he has the mentality of a sixteen year old boy and it won’t develop past that for at least a decade, so carry on at your own risk!

3. Allows you to overextend yourself – If you offer to wash dishes after dinner and he thanks you, but plops down on the couch with a beer instead of helping, run, girl, run! If he lets you pay for everything and then hints toward a foot massage, he’s a selfish loser.

Financial Warning Signs

1. Over-due bills – By the time a guy is in his early 20s, even if he wasn’t financial responsibility by his parents, he should have learned to be responsible with his bills.

2. Bills in someone else’s name – This can only mean one of two things: It’s an ex who isn’t out of the picture (even if he says she is) or a more responsible person is the account holder because the company refused to open an account in your date’s name. Either way, ouch!

3. Maxed out credit cards – Living beyond their means is a sign of irresponsible living, yes, but more importantly, it’s a good indicator of low self-esteem, lack of self-control, and a superficial heart. What is on his credit card/bank statements is also important. It is a well known fact that what you spend your money on is what you care about. It’s a good insight into someone’s priorities in life.

Often-Overlooked Warning Signs

1. Inconsistent (or more than three) online dating site profiles – If he’s trying to increase his chances of hooking up by portraying himself differently on multiple profiles, it’s a sign he’s a dishonest person. If he’s got a ton of profiles, even after you have been dating for a while, it’s a sign he’s dating other people, or at least chatting with other prospects.

2. Their profiles are trashy – Foul language, songs about pimps and ho's, and anything demeaning to women on any of his online profiles is a sign he’s trashy and not worth your time.

3. Criminal history and/or multiple driving infractions – Careless speeding once is understandable, but multiple tickets? Not good. Criminal history is of course a big red flag, so make sure your guy has a clean slate. If you know your guy has a history, you may want to take some time to get more information. You can call your local sheriff and police stations for criminal and traffic information, go to the law library for eviction records and leans, and your court house to check on divorces, law suits, traffic violations, etc. It’s all public record, so take advantage of it!

4. Bad reputation – Bad reps speak for themselves. Listen to what his exes have to say. Don’t dismiss suspicious comments by his friends and family. They are big clues to what he’s really like. If they don’t trust him, neither should you.

litratong pinoy # 47 - the nice blouse

Imagine wearing the same color of blouse in the office? This is one of my favorite blouses ever that if you carefully look at it, you can see that it's fading because it has been over used. I am the one in the middle and the girls beside me are my colleagues from work. You, what is your favorite blouse?

an open letter to God

Dear God,

All things happen for a reason. I may not understand the reason why at this point but I am confident that this is all for your glory. And I rest in the thought that you will never give me something I cannot handle.

Thank you in advance for the life that you are preparing for me. I trully appreciate it.

In your love,
Farah

You and I

You and I will travel far together
We'll pursue our little star together
We'll be happy as we are together
We may never get to heaven
But it's heaven, at least to try
You and I are going on together
'Til the time we have is gone forever
Watch the evening drawing on together
Growing older, growing closer
Making memories that light the sky
That only time can make
That only love can make
That only we can make
You and I

You and I are going on together
'Til the time we have is gone forever
Watch the evening drawing on together
Growing older, growing closer
Making memories that light the sky
That only time can make
That only love can make
That only we can make
You and I

You and I, You and I, ...
(shirley bassey)

Hi Dada,
I can't believe that we are celebrating our 4th year as husband and wife today! Time really flies fast when you are having fun! We've been through a lot and boy, it wasn't that easy. Roller coaster ride it was! But those tough times made this relationship stronger and better. And through these years, I wonder how you still can make me so kilig by just your warm touch, your sweet glance or your beautiful kisses. Thanks for never failing to kiss me goodnight and then kiss me good morning, for 4 years! Dad, I love you even more today. You and Lizzie are the best things that has ever happened to my life.
I love you with all that I have. And even more...
Always,
Mum

Why women cry

Why Women Cry
Watch her eyes

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman," she told him.

"I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."

Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"

"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry.

Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone, he asked, "God, why do women cry so easily?"

God said

"When I made the woman she had to be special.

I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.

I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.

I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.

I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.

And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed."

"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."

on family.

Fame is fleeting but family is forever.

-P.M.

Man from Manila

Amidst a very busy Friday (with the weekend reports and all), my husband shared to me this sad news.

It’s been cold summer nights since we drifted apart
Cold summer nights since you walked out that door
Cold summer nights… oh, here on my own
Coz I miss you baby, I need you here
Rest in Peace, Man from Manila.

friday fills ins

1. Helping out an elderly woman this afternoon was my last random act of kindness.

2. Another place to go for you.

3. I am sensitive especially in matters of the heart.

4. Coffee, tea or me.

5. And they go on separate paths.

6. Our daughter reminds me that there is something constant in this world -- our love for each other.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to finishing a couple more opps, tomorrow my plans include sleeping the whole day and Sunday, I want to binge!

wedding flowers

My mom suddenly called me in the wee hours in the morning just sharing her new discovery about wedding flowers. As you can see, this has been one of her passions lately -- wedding planning. She actually planned the wedding of a cousin in Vegas. And had she known that there is a store like FiftyFlowers, she would have created a better floral arrangement for my cousin. It got me all excited that I wanted to consult them for a friend's wedding in June. I am confident that with them, nothing can go wrong as they are true experts on this field.

bridesmaid gifts

All my close friends have tied the knot except for one and she happens to be my best friend. Over coffee just last week, we were talking about how expensive it is now to get married and how it would be practical to just have a simple yet intimate celebration and just save the money for the future. If I can say, she is one practical lady and if given the choice, she would want to have a quiet, simple wedding of her own. That's why I would really go out of my way to choose all the best bridesmaid gifts that I can give her. I am not so sure what to give her yet but online shops like The Knot Wedding Shop will pretty much give an idea of what to get for her.

silver coins

They say that when you pop some silver coins in the wishing well and make a wish, your wishes will come true. I have always believed in this saying for the longest time now. So when the opportunity of being away for a while and spend some time basking in the sun and feeling the white sands of the Riviera Maya got me too excited. Imagine forgetting the word "stress" as you step in the stress-free hotels. Not to mention the gourmet inclusive concept that provides exceptional quality in food and a remarkable dining experience.

If all these and more are what is in store for me should I get the chance to go, I will never go tired of popping all those coins in the wishing well and wish. Who knows?

What a Woman Should Have.

From Aggie.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE...
enough money within her control to move out,
rent a place of her own,
even if she never wants to or needs to...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
something perfect to wear whether the employer,
or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to
re-telling it in her old age....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
one friend who always makes her laugh...and one who lets her cry...
(I'm lucky to have a lot )

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems,
and a recipe for a meal,
that will make her guests feel honored...

A WOMEN SHOULD HAVE...
a feeling of control over her destiny....
...and

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to fall in love without losing herself...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to quit a job,
break up with a lover,
and confront a friend without;
ruining the friendship...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
when to try harder...and WHEN TO WALK AWAY...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
that she can't change the length of her calves,
the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
that her childhood may not have been perfect...but its over...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
what she would and wouldn't do for love or more...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to live alone...even if she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW..
whom she can trust, whom she can't,
and why she shouldn't take it personally...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
where to go..
be it to her best friend's kitchen table...
or a charming inn in the woods...
when her soul needs soothing...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.. .
what she can and can't accomplish in a day...
a month...and a year...

Cancun All Inclusive

I had a very pleasant dream last night. Probably this is due to the fact that I have been preoccupied with where I want to go this Summer. I wanted to go to a nice beach, with white sand and all. I would want it to e relaxing and private so my husband and I can share some quiet moments together. And I would want the place to have good food and soothing music around the place. With all these being said, I dreamt of winning a Cancun All Inclusive package in one of the contests I joined in online. My dream was very vivid and the place was trully heavenly. It was almost reality until my daughter woke me up because she wanted to go down for breakfast already. Argh!

I might as well check out some possible places now as Summer is almost here. Can't wait to bask in the sun and soak in the cool waters!
